Can Rose Water Treat Eye Conditions?
Share
The practice of using rose water for the eyes is not new. In Ayurvedic and Unani medicine, rose water is commonly used to reduce inflammation and other eye disorders. Traditionally, rose water was used to cure constipation, inflammation, and swelling and for easing throat infection. However, a study observed how it worked in managing eye issues when used as eye drops. Here’s how rosewater can help treat eye conditions:
- Reduces inflammation: Rosewater has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness, swelling, and irritation in the eyes. It can be used to soothe tired, puffy eyes and reduce the appearance of dark circles.
- Provides relief from dry eyes: If you suffer from dry eyes, rosewater can help provide relief. Its hydrating properties can help moisturize the eyes and prevent dryness, which can cause discomfort and irritation.
- Has antibacterial properties: Rosewater has natural antibacterial properties that can help fight off bacteria and prevent infections in the eyes. It can be used to treat conditions like conjunctivitis or pink eye.
- Can improve vision: Rosewater is believed to have a positive effect on vision and eye health. It contains vitamins A and C, which are essential for maintaining healthy eyes and improving vision.
To use rosewater for eye conditions, you can apply it directly to your eyes through a dropper or use it as a compress. To make a compress, soak a clean cloth in rosewater and place it over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. You can repeat this process a few times a day to help soothe and treat eye conditions.
When used in moderation, rose water has very few to no negative side effects, but overuse might cause some harm. A patch test is required since other adverse effects, which mainly relate to an individual’s allergic sensitivity to roses, differ from person to person. Please see a doctor right away if you experience any eye pain, severe irritation, or stinging after using rose water.
